Welcome to our Roost!
Bootheel Boss Gobblers
The National Wild Turkey Federation, Inc., according to its Articles of Incorporation, states “To purposes for which the corporation is organized are exclusively educational and charitable, and shall to establish, maintain and promote interest in the wise conservation and management of the American wild turkey; to raise money for developing, preserving, restoring, and maintaining wild turkey habit to give and promote entertainments, lectures, exhibitions, of any and all descriptions for the general instructions of the members and general public; and to do all other things necessary and proper in the future of said objectives, not inconsistent with its exclusively educational and charitable objectives.”
Since the National
Wild Turkey Federation was chartered, on March 28th, 1973, it
has been tested on every front, and today serves as the “voice” of the
wild turkey – a voice that must be heard.
With
membership numbering in the excess of 231 thousands nationally, a local
chapter program is not necessary to begin action programs on a level which
will coordinate with state and national programs to strengthen restocking
and management efforts. While some state have taken the lead in restoring the wild turkey into
all suitable habitat, other states have dragged their feet, blaming their
slower progress on any number of factors. Unless we take the initiative
to see that all potential states have a suitable long-range wild turkey
program and that the programs receive their fair share of revenue, who
will?

BOOTHEEL
BOSS GOBBLERS - GO TO THE BIRDS.
By: Allen “horntagger” Morris

February
9th this year the Bootheel Boss Gobblers Chapter of the National
Wild Turkey Federation had their eighteenth annual super-fund banquet in Cape
Girardeau, Missouri. In which the banquet went to the birds, the birds of prey
that is.
The
speaker for the event was the founder of The World Bird Sanctuary, ornithologist
Walter C. Crawford Jr. who is recognized around the world for his leadership
in avian scientific studies, education, reintroduction of endangered species,
habitat management and wildlife rescue.
Today,
he directs on of North America’s largest and most respected sanctuaries concerned
with the conservation of bird species worldwide. World Bird Sanctuary emphasis
on preserving birds of prey (raptors) and parrots.
They
brought in and flew many types of birds of prey within inches of and over 500
in attendance at the banquet. With a Barn Owl flying silently with inches of
my head.
With
the comments from Mr. Crawford praising the National Wild Turkey Federation
and the Wild Turkey Hunters for the great contributions to the reintroduction
of the Wild Turkey in the United States. Along with learning a few new things,
it was one the best banquets and seminars I have attended.
If
you missed out and would like to learn more about The World Bird Sanctuary take
a look www.worldbirdsanctuary.org
Hope
to see you at next years banquet. Allen “horntagger” Morris
